Protection of Minors Program

Illinois State University has adopted a new Protection of Minors Policy to establish safeguards for children under the age of 18 who participate in ISU sponsored activities and programs on campus and in other locations under the authority and direction of the University.

The policy requires any program involving minors to meet the following criteria:

  • Register Program
  • Complete Background Checks
  • Agree to have faculty, staff, students, and volunteers complete required training.
  • Adhere to all reporting obligations
  • Comply with policy

This policy does not apply to general public events where parents/guardians are invited/expected to provide supervision of minors, or to events where parents/guardians are explicitly required to accompany their children.

All Illinois State University personnel, volunteers, vendors and contractors are expected to be familiar with and comply with the provisions of this policy and any related university campus policies and/or procedures as applicable. In addition, non-university organizations and entities that operate non-university programs and activities on campus (i.e. Registered Student Organizations, lessees, etc.) shall be familiar with this Policy and shall take appropriate precautions to protect minors participating in or attending their programs and activities.
