Environmental Health & Safety coordinates the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program for the University. EHS staff assist departments in procuring AEDs on state contract, maintaining a current inventory of all AEDs on campus, sharing AED locations with our 911 centers and assisting departments with training their personnel on proper usage. Please contact Environmental Health and Safety at (309) 438-8325 with any questions.
Departmental AED coordinators are responsible for monthly inspections of AEDs. Having coordinators within departments allows workers to take ownership of AEDs in their building. Coordinators are asked to complete a monthly inspection and document the inspection on the inspection checklist found in the resource box. If any issues involving an AED is discovered, it is the responsibility of the departmental coordinator to report the concern to EHS.
In the event that an AED is used, an AED utilization form must be completed. This form allows Environmental Health and Safety investigate the incident and tells EHS that the AED will need to go through maintenance before being placed back into service.
