Confined Space
The purpose of Illinois State University's (ISU) Confined Space Procedure is to protect employees from the hazards associated with entering and conducting operations in confined spaces such as sewers, storage tanks, and utility tunnels. This program applies to employees who, while performing their duties, enter a confined space. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Permit Required Confined Space Entry Standard 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.146 requires Illinois State University to develop and implement procedures for safe confined space entry.
All departments that wish to enter confined spaces are required to implement the practices and procedures outlined in this procedure. If you have any questions with regard to Confined Spaces, please contact Environmental Health and Safety at (309) 438-8325.
