OSFM Compliance

The University operates in an increasingly complex environment with numerous laws and regulations to follow. Members of the University community should strive, to the best of their ability, to be accountable and operate in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and other standards.  Most of these codes are easy to comply with.  Below are examples of common deficiencies found on campus during inspections.  Most of these deficiencies are easy to fix, but if you have any questions on how to address a code deficiency, please reach out the to the Environmental Health and Safety office at ISU.

Fire/Life Safety

Remove combustibles

Remove hold open devices

Clear exits

Electrical Safety

Secure power strips

Plug appliances directly into outlets

Provide clearance around electrical equipment

Remove potential hazards

Two power strips are connected together.

Remove the daisy chains.

Multiple extension cords run up from below a desk to the top.

Remove the extension cords.

Remove the multi-plug devices.

Goals

The ISU Compliance Program is charged with promoting and supporting a culture at the University which cultivates compliance awareness into the daily activities of the University and encourages all members of the University community to conduct University business with the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

Program goals include:

  • Improving the University's coordination, dissemination, and communication of compliance information, and identify gaps in compliance;
  • Assisting the University community with compliance related processes, identifying emerging compliance trends, providing compliance support activities, and coordinating and managing compliance risks;
  • Promoting compliance awareness by assisting in the development and delivery of compliance related training;
  • Providing means for the community to obtain compliance assistance and report concerns related to compliance;
