Training

  • Laboratory Safety Training – The purpose of laboratory safety training is to educate individuals on how to identify and minimize hazards in a lab, and to prepare for emergencies. The goal is to reduce the risk of injury or illness in research and lab settings. This training is in the process of being updated as of October 2024.
  • Liquid Nitrogen Safety Training – Provides information on the potential hazards associated with liquid nitrogen, including its extreme cold temperatures, and to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely use, store, and transfer liquid nitrogen, minimizing the risk of injury from burns, frostbite, or oxygen displacement when handling it properly; essentially ensuring safe working practices when dealing with this cryogenic substance.
  • Biosafety Training - Provides training for researchers handling biohazards and hazardous chemicals in a research or clinical laboratory. The course addresses awareness of biohazards, chemical hazards, risk assessment, and key risk management principles including work practices, personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, and emergency response.
  • Zoonosis and Working Safely with Animals Training – Provides education for individuals who work with animals on how to prevent injury and the transmission of diseases that can spread between animals and humans, known as zoonotic diseases, protecting both the workers and the animals they handle.
  • Radiation Safety Training – Radiation Safety Training for radioactive materials, radiation-producing equipment, and lasers is available on Canvas. Contact EHS to be granted access.

IMPORTANT: The Agreement to Adhere to Lab Safety Policies and OHS Training and Awareness Form must be reviewed and signed by all lab workers and their supervisors. The Agreement must be kept on file and made available upon request.
